The Southern Island Ethnic Forum invites traditional leaders from various countries to share cultural systems.

The Taipei Secretariat of the South Island Ethnic Forum held the "2019 South Island Ethnic Forum" today at the Grand Hotel in Taipei. In the morning, the opening ceremony and forum were held, followed by the annual executive committee meeting with forum members in the afternoon. President Tsai Ing-wen, Premier Su Tseng-chang, and former President Tommy Remengesau of the Republic of Palau attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Former President Remengesau, in his capacity as a traditional leader, also served as the keynote speaker, sharing the traditional leadership system of Palau, which received widespread acclaim.

The South Island Ethnic Forum holds a policy-oriented symposium every two years, focusing on different themes each time. This year's theme is centered around the traditional leadership systems of Taiwan's indigenous peoples and South Island nations. The event invited traditional leaders from the Republic of Palau to Taiwan to share their country's systems and experiences with the traditional leaders and elders of Taiwan's indigenous peoples.
